Eyebrows Are Everything
For me and my entire current life, they are. And if you’re reading this, you’re probably pretty eyebrow obsessed as well. Thats ok! Eyebrows are the most important feature on a face. Have you ever seen an image of a celeb without brows? (Just Google, you will be amazed.)
Eyebrows have been a large part of my life for the last 10+ years. What began as a service I used to dread seeing on my esthetics schedule, is now my favorite thing in the world and even something I find myself obsessing over when I’m not even working.
Many new clients always ask me: “so how did you get into brows?” I never have a real concise answer. It kind of just chose me. After I graduated esthetics school in 2009, (where we had a 2 hours waxing course covering eyebrows & other facial and body waxing) I didn’t feel very confident in eyebrow shaping. However, my first job in New York as an esthetician where I would perform facial services, required me to provide brow shapings as a service, I kind of gagged. I will never forget the first person I screwed up on. One, I put entirely too much wax on her brow, cause too much hair to removed. And two, the wax wasn’t all the way heated up so it cooled quickly on her skin and it’s nearly impossible to remove!
But, after that fiasco, I took every wrongdoing and kept correcting it over and over again. After doing about 30 brows I felt comfortable. I quickly noticed that more and more eyebrow appointments were popping up on my schedule than facials. I began enjoying them. I enjoyed the challenge of it and the creation of it. It was very artistic. Teaching my clients about growing their brows out and the magic of a brow pencil was something not everyone was doing in the early 2000’s, where the skinny brow trend was starting to phase out.
Once I moved to Connecticut I started traveling and free-lancing at “eyebrow parties” throughout New York and Connecticut, sometimes driving 8 hours a day. I didn’t care, it was so much fun connecting with people and educating them on their brows. In 2014 I began working at a salon spa on Greenwich Avenue for 3 years, where I developed such a large clientele that I wanted to start my own brow business and work for myself, thus “sds” was born. When I started my own thing, I didn’t have a location & wasn’t sure where to start. My house at the time in Greenwich had a back entrance to a small room that I wasn’t utilizing. In my mind, I thought I would just set up a small brow studio and use it for a couple of weeks to see if some clients came. Well, more than some clients came. MANY clients came! Some of you who are reading this probably remember my home studio. I actually stayed there for 2 years before I decided to pack up and head to Hollywood...
In 2018 I decided I wanted to move to Los Angelos. It was always a dream of mine and I decided that it was now or never. Looking back on this, I give myself so much credit because that took so much courage that I don’t even think I possess now. While I was living out there, I was flying back once a month to service most of my clients on the East Coast! Bi-Coastal life is no joke. It was exhilarating but exhausting. Each time I would land back in LA I would miss my family, my friends, my clients and my business more. I only lasted a year there but it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I wouldn’t trade it for a thing. I will never have to regret not doing that.
Once I came back to Connecticut permanently I was ready to expand my business. I created a small but special brow line and created two new brow studios in Connecticut. Some people ask which one I prefer more, but the answer is I love them both equally and when I get tired of one, I get to go to the other!
One of things that is really amazing and special to me about my business is the gift of being able to connect on an intimate level with SO many women! It really is such a profound thing to me. Each one of my clients have a unique energy that they bring and I genuinely feel honored that they allow me to offer such a trusting service for them.
Although eyebrows will always be my number one, being a veteran in the beauty industry is something I truly pride myself on. I have actually worked in salons and spas since I was 16 years old! I have so much knowledge on beauty and wellness that I wanted to create a space that I can share with all my clients and hope that they can learn something and to also feel reassured that my experiences and my knowledge is GENUINE. I am not an influencer or blogger. I am someone who has tried, tasted, felt, touched and PAID for everything in this industry and want to share it with you!
